Ratchford: I have to try and establish myself in the 17

Warrington’s Stefan Ratchford says he simply wants to play consistent rugby, whatever position that may be.

The 23-year old left Salford at the end of last season after shining for the City Reds at stand off. But Ratchford says he will be happy to play wherever coach Tony Smith feels he is best placed.

Ratchford said: “If you look across the whole squad the squad is filled with quality players. I think this first 12 months I have to try and establish myself in the 17.

“I’m not expecting to come in and nail down a position straight away. Hopefully I can work into the 17 and work my way from there.

“I’m not sure what Tony’s plans are for me so I’m just looking forward to getting the 17 and taking things from there.”

Ratchford has previously played in the three-quarters, and played for the England Knights at fullback. Now he wants to go on and experience play off rugby while at the Wolves.

He said: “We underachieved as a club while I was there. We never played play off rugby or a challenge cup semi final, so I’m looking forward to playing in some of the bigger games.”
