Rams sign Matty Wildie

Dewsbury have signed Wakefield hooker or half-back Matty Wildie for the 2015 season.

Wildie, 23, has made 36 Super League appearances since making his debut in 2010, and has previously played in the Championship for Batley and Doncaster on loan.

He said: “I’m really delighted to be joining the Rams.

“I’ve heard great things about the club from Kieran Hyde and the other ex-Wakefield lads here.

“It’s hopefully an opportunity for me to play regularly, and with the new structure in place I know there’s the prospect of playing against some top-level teams.

“I’m very excited about coming to Dewsbury and look forward to performing to my potential.”

Wildie was unveiled to Rams supporters at an exclusive Squadbuilder members event at the Tetley’s Stadium on Tuesday night.

Dewsbury fought off competition from two Super League clubs to sign the former England junior international.

Coach Glenn Morrison said: “Matty is a great signing for the club and I’m very happy we’ve been able to bring him here.

“He has great hands, a very good turn of pace and could potentially make a fantastic half-back partner for Anthony Thackeray in 2015.

“He really adds to our options at hooker and half-back and I am confident that he is a player who can take us forward next season, as we prepare to face a new, tougher challenge.”
