Raidettes claim Women’s Yorkshire Cup

Oulton Raidettes have beaten York City Knights to win the first Women’s RL Yorkshire County Cup, winning 26-4 on Sunday.

The Raidettes, based in Leeds, put the Knights under pressure from the start of the game, with York suffering several first-half injuries.

Matters were tight up until 12 minutes from time, when York, who were behind on the scoreboard but imposing themselves on a tiring Oulton team by this stage, lost possession at a play the ball.

This allowed the Raidettes to go 70 metres upfield and score through Abigail Burton.

The try proved crucial to the game’s outcome, with Oulton half back Mary Tiplady being named as Most Valuable Player on the day.
