RAF serviceman dies after head injury in match

RAF full-back Scott Stevenson has died after sustaining a head injury in last Friday’s Inter-Services first XIII match against the Army in Aldershot.

The 25-year-old was a senior aircraftman technician in the RAF. He was injured playing for the RAF first-team in a match against the Army on Friday, and died on Monday.

Stevenson was based at RAF Marham in Norfolk and also played for Boston Buccaneers community club in Lincolnshire.

In a statement released by United Kingdom Armed Forces Rugby League, it read: “SAC Stevenson was an extremely talented player and popular team-mate within the UKAFRL squad.

“His passing is a terrible loss to the Armed Forces Rugby League community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, team-mates and colleagues at this sad time.”

The RFL has offered support to the family and the RAF Rugby League through the Rugby League Benevolent Fund.
