Radford happy with Hull FC hit-out

Hull FC coach Lee Radford has expressed his delight at the performance of his young players in his side’s 46-12 win against Doncaster.

“The young blokes really stood up, I asked them to take a step in the right direction and they did that with their performance today,” Radford said.

“Physically they looked stronger which is pleasing.

“The core of that side will be our U23s squad, one or two still need physical development but a lot more than handled themselves.

“The plus of the Super 8s was giving young lads a chance and they look better for that now.”

Radford was also happy with the display of his senior charges.

“I told them I would select 7 or 8 players from today’s squad to play in the derby fixture next week and they’ve certainly given me something to think about,” he said.

“We needed a big performance from Leon and he did that. He controlled the game really well out there and hopefully he can continue that.”

Radford reserved special praise for his Kirk Yeoman who’s father passed away only days ago.

“It was difficult off field circumstances for Kirk this week, but he wanted to play and I thought he looked really tidy, which is a credit to him,” he said.

“He’s given me something to think about and it’s a pat on the back for Kirk, not only for what he has had to deal with this week off the field but how he impressed out there too.”
