Pursglove praise for Demetriou

Keighley’s Olly Pursglove has applauded the efforts of Head Coach Jason Demetriou over his two year spell at Cougar Park.

Demetriou has worked wonders with the Cougars since his appointment on December 2010, earning them promotion through the playoffs beating Workington in the Co-operative Championship One last October.

Their success rewarded them, attracting a clutch of former Super League stars including ex-Wakefield team-mates Semi Tadulala and Sam Obst as they finished the 2012 season in sixth.

However the former Widnes Vikings man announced two months ago he would be returning to his native homeland Australia.

Second row Pursglove told Love Rugby League how he went about his work at the Cougars in his tenure.

He said, “Jason Demetriou has the ability to look at the little things that other people don’t pick up on. When he came to us he was used to a professional environment.

“He saw the areas that weren’t up to scratch in the team and went about improving these areas. The intensity of our training stepped up a lot when he came as he used video sessions to analyse each player, thus showing the areas you needed to improve as a player and a team.”

“He has helped me personally with my defensive tackling. I have played 80 minutes for most of the games this season and I’m happy with my effort levels.”

Keighley have agreed terms with Paul March to take over the Head Coach role at Keighley for the 2013 season.
