Catalans have continued their re-building plans for next season with the signing of Sydney Roosters prop Lopeni Paea.

Paea, 26, captained Tonga at the 2008 World Cup and has signed a two year deal with the French club, who finished the 2010 season rooted to the bottom of the Super League table.

Incoming head coach Trent Robinson said: “Lopini is a strong and powerful front rower with good footwork. He has the potential to form a quality partnership with David Ferriol, Rémi Casty, Jamal Fakir, Sébastien Martins and Michael Simon. He has a proud Tongan heritage and strong sense of community.”

Paea has played 93 games in the NRL with the Roosters, scoring three tries.

He added: “I’m delighted to sign with Dragons and play in Super League next season. I’m looking forward to meet(ing) the supporters and invest(ing) in the Catalan culture.”
