South Wales Scorpions make their historic bow in rugby league’s professional ranks when they take on Workington in Sunday’s Co-operative Championship One fixture.

The Neath-based outfit are set to include former Neath RFC back Matt Hutchings while Loz Wildbore brings valuable rugby league experience.

Joe McKenna (work commitments) and Stuart Rhodes (Achilles) are Town’s definite absentees for the trip to south Wales. However, Lee Dutton is likely to return from a groin injury if he can prove his fitness during training.

Workington coach Gary Charlton said: “The boys played really well at the weekend (against Whitehaven) and everyone at the club is pleased.

“We seem to be getting a bit better with every week. Our discipline was very good and our error rate was down a bit on what it has been. We’ve been playing a bit of rugby too, which is pleasing.”

He added: “I’ve told the lads at training that we’ve got to get our game in order and come up with something to stop the Scorpions, whatever they do.”
