Prescott set for back operation

Wigan prop Paul Prescott faces 10 weeks on the sidelines, after it was revealed he needs an operation on a back injury.

Prescott, 27, has been troubled by a back problem for the past two seasons, and it restricted him to just 11 appearances in 2012.

A former Ireland international, the Wigan academy product confirmed his allegiance to England and was part of the 2011 training squad.

He adds to an increasing list of players on the treatment table at the DW Stadium, with full-back Sam Tomkins likely to miss this weekend’s clash with London with a shoulder injury.

Anthony Gelling is out for six weeks with damaged medial knee ligaments, and Harrison Hansen (wrist) and Epalahame Lauaki (leg) are also still missing.

Head Coach Shaun Wane does at least have some good news on the injury front, with prop Chris Tuson in contention to return from a quad injury for the home game with the Broncos on Sunday.
