Pre-season round-up: wins for Leeds Rhinos, Hull KR, Wigan and Catalans

There were four pre-season friendlies this weekend, with Leeds Rhinos claiming victory over Hull in Tom Briscoe’s testimonial.

A crowd of 3,500 watched the French derby between Catalans Dragons and Super League newcomers at the Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday.

The Super League Grand Finalists ran-out 26-10 winners in Perpignan. Tom Davies (2), Fouad Yaha, Gil Dudson and Joe Chan scored for Catalans. Toulouse’s tries came from Lloyd White and Chris Hankinson.

Wigan claimed the bragging rights in Stefan Ratchford’s testimonial as they beat Warrington 14-6 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Jai Field was at the double as Iain Thornley made a try-scoring return for the Warriors. Matty Ashton scored Warrington’s try.

Hull KR edged past Super League rivals Huddersfield 24-18 at Craven Park. Ryan Hall, Sam Wood and Kane Linnett (2) scored for the Robins. Huddersfield’s tries were courtesy of Olly Ashall-Bott, Tui Lolohea and Innes Senior.

Leeds Rhinos victorious in Tom Briscoe’s testimonial

Leeds battered Hull 38-6 in Tom Briscoe’s testimonial at Headingley on Sunday. Hull winger Adam Swift opened the scoring but it was all Leeds from then on.

Kruise Leeming, Liam Sutcliffe, Briscoe, Aidan Sezer, Richie Myler, Blake Austin and Rhyse Martin crossed for the Rhinos.

There are three pre-season friendlies left in total. Warrington take on Salford in Lee Mossop’s testimonial on Friday night, whilst Hunslet welcome neighbours Leeds on Sunday afternoon.

On February 12, Bradford face League 1 side Midlands Hurricanes.
