Powell to assess squad fitness

Featherstone Rovers coach Daryl Powell will assess his squad’s fitness following Wednesday night’s 56-16 win over Widnes Vikings, although Iain Morrison is definitely out.

Rovers are now favourites to finish top of the league after Bryn Powell‘s hat-trick helped his side rack up a big enough win to overhaul Leigh on points difference.

But they face a big challenge against battling Dewsbury Rams, who last week eased their own relegation fears by securing a vital 30-18 win over Hunslet.

Rams coach Warren Jowitt said: “It was a good win for us. It was like our cup final, and thankfully we came out on top.”

He added: “It was a tight first half, but I thought we were in control of the game for 50 minutes.

“We finished strongly, and that’s pleasing because over recent weeks we haven’t always done that.

“We’ve got Featherstone and Leigh left, and they’re two tough games.

“We’ve got to try to take something from this game and then do the same against Leigh.”
