Powell targets improvement in Castleford kicking game

Castleford may have won at Warrington on Easter Monday, but coach Daryl Powell can still see areas where the Tigers need to improve.

Powell’s men won 22-14 at the Halliwell Jones, but the coach thinks that they could have made the game simpler by kicking better.

“I thought our kicking game could have been better today, they are pretty good at charging down and they got after us a bit and got two or three charge downs which our kickers will not be happy about,” he told his club’s official website.

“We were talking at half time about kicking better and I don’t think that happened.

“We did not put them under as much pressure as we would have wanted. Gale is a good player, he’s really combative and he is a good general.

“I though Benny Roberts did well, it was a good performance from him today, his kicking could have been better today but his general play was good and he showed that he can challenge defences when he runs the ball.”

As well as Roberts, Powell also felt that Adam Milner had a great game for Castleford.

“That is the best that I’ve seen him play,” he said.

“I think that has been coming for the last few weeks, he has been getting better and better. He looks like a real high quality player at the moment.

“He is getting better defensively and his ability to break the line was excellent he did a huge job for us today.

“He’s been challenged a bit at times and he had Clark in front of today and that performance will be massive for him today.”
