Powell: St Helens deserved the win

Castleford boss Daryl Powell wasn’t too disheartened by their defeat to start the Super 8s, admitting that St Helens deserved their win.

In a tight game, it was Saints that came out on top 26-12 thanks to a stern defensive effort, sending the Tigers to their first home defeat of the season.

Powell told Sky Sports: “I don’t think there was much in the game. We knew Saints would throw everything at us, they need the points.

“I don’t think we were far off. We did some good things, we conceded a sloppy try first half, it was just a tight game and we made a few too many errors in the first half.

“I thought we adjusted well in the second half, we just couldn’t nail our opportunities.

“We gave ourselves a bit of a chance but knocked on. Saints deserved the win, we take it on the chin and move on.”
