Powell pleased with Rovers revenge

Featherstone coach Daryl Powell was pleased his side managed to gain revenge with a 44-16 win at Whitehaven yesterday.

Haven humbled Rovers 52-26 at the Chris Moyles Stadium last month, but Powell’s men came away with all three points in Cumbria yesterday, Matty Dale scoring a brace of tries.

And Powell was pleased with the win that lifts Rovers above Haven and in to fourth in the Championship table.

He told the club’s official website: “You always want the response from players and I didn’t think I’d have to do anything in terms of motivation this week and that’s how it proved to be. I think the players were fantastic.

“We had a real tough weekend last week and to come out of that and to come away with a bit of redemption today was what we needed. To win by such a significant margin at Whitehaven, where they’ve been exceptionally strong, was very pleasing.

“Obviously you want to enjoy wins but we have to recognise that we have a couple of tough fixtures ahead of us.”

Featherstone travel to Leigh on Thursday night for the SKY televised match, before hosting Halifax on May 4.
