Daryl Powell was happy with Castleford’s performance against Wakefield yesterday and says the signs are good for the season ahead.

The Tigers ran out 32-6 winners against the Wildcats on Sunday.

“I was really pleased,” Powell said.

“Defensively we were excellent. Our ability to contain Wakefield was outstanding. Some of our play today I was really happy with. It was really tough conditions, it was quite heavy.”

Powell hailed the four-try haul of Denny Solomona and the display of Castleford’s forward pack.

“It was pretty special, it was world-class that,” he said.

“To score four tries was pretty special.

Oliver Holmes‘ looking good, as I think our forward pack in general is. Lew Jewitt was exceptionally strong today.”

“For me the signs are that whichever position you could look at there’s going to be challenges.

“There’s a lot of togetherness. There’s a real spirit about and a lot of confidence as well.”

Powell said the Tigers have ambitious goals in 2016.

“I’ve spoken about top four and I think we are capable of doing something pretty special,” he said.

“We should be ambitious, so we’re focused on that. I think the boys believe that too.”
