Castleford coach Daryl Powell describe last night’s victory over Hull FC as a big and important win for his side as they start the Super 8s.

The Tigers started the run into the finals on fire with an impressive display.

“We’ve just got to do what we can do,” Powell said.

“It was an big win for us, an important game against a side who have been superb this year.

“I thought some elements of our game showed real improvement.”

Castleford ran out to a 0-24 lead, before Hull FC scored three tries.

The Tigers crossed for a final try just before full-time to make it 16-30.

“I thought for the vast majority of the game we were in control,” Powell said.

“I thought we looked sharp at times. There were a couple of scrappy sets in there but once we tidied them up we put them under a lot of pressure.

“We didn’t get a lot of attacking opportunities in the second half, and we made life difficult with errors and allowed them back in the game.

“It became a bit of a battle in the second half. We got tired and looked like a side that hadn’t played in two weeks.”

“[But] I thought our middle unit were outstanding tonight.”
