Powell dismayed with poor defence

Castleford coach Daryl Powell says the Tigers were “alright” for half of the game against Warrington but dropped off when things got tougher.

Castleford led 18-16 at half-time but were shamed 26-42 in the second 40.

“We were alright for half a game,” Powell admitted.

“It’s obviously disappointing, there was a period there in the second half when they just blew us away.

“We’ve got a little bit of work to do. You cannot drop the ball consistently in good field position.”

Castleford conceded several tries right in the middle of the field.

“It’s a poor area to concede,” Powell said.

“We did a good job for 40 minutes but not good enough when it gets really, really tough.

“We needed to go on with it. You can’t have to score 40-odd points to beat a team like them.”

Rangi Chase played 61 minutes after coming off the bench.

“I thought Rangi went OK,” Powell said.

“He did some decent things. It’s tough for him first game coming back. I think he looked alright at times.”
