Plenty of positives for Kelly despite defeat

Dewsbury head coach Neil Kelly took plenty of positives from his team’s performance after they bowed out of the Challenge Cup against Wakefield on Friday.

The Rams fell 54-6 against the Super League side, but Kelly was pleased with the spirit shown by his players.

“I can’t remember a time when I’ve lost a game by 50 points and said that we defended superbly,” said Kelly.

“Fitness took its toll in the end but we scrambled well and showed a great desire to keep them out. I’ve got so much respect for the players and so many positives came out of that for us as a team.

“If we can keep sides out like that in the Championship we’ll climb the table, but we have to do better with the ball as well.

“The players have earned a weekend off and then we’ll concentrate on next week’s game.”
