Pewhairangi out for the season

London have confirmed halfback Api Pewhairangi will miss the rest of the 2016 season with a tear to his patella tendon.

Pewhairangi picked up the injury in Sunday’s win over Batley.

Matt Davis suffered a season ending ruptured ACL earlier in the year, but is progressing nicely, and on track for a return ahead of 2017’s pre-season.

Will Barthau underwent surgery in June to reconstruct lateral ligaments in his ankle which had ruptured in training.

Working with the club’s medical and strength and conditioning teams, Barthau’s rehabilitation ran smoothly, and he will return to the match day 19 this weekend.

London head coach Andrew Henderson said it is always tough to lose players – particularly at pivotal points in the season – but understands it’s the nature of the beast.

“Obviously we’re not thrilled to have lost Api after the performances he’s put in for us this season, but injury is part and parcel of sport,” he said,

“You can’t necessarily plan for these things, but we have a strong squad, and luckily, it has worked out for us that Barthau’s rehabilitation has come to a close, and he’s able to return to our match day 19.

“Api will continue to work with our medical and S&C teams, and we look forward to seeing him back on the field when he’s good and ready.”
