Peter Beattie to leave role as ARL Commission chairman

Drew Darbyshire

Peter Beattie will leave his role as Australian Rugby League Commission chairman before the start of the 2020 season.

On Wednesday, Beattie told fellow commissioners that he will not be re-nominating for the chair when his two-year term expires in February.

Beattie thinks Peter V’Landys would be a good successor of his position.

He said: “In my view Peter V’Landys will be a better chairman.

“You need good people at the top I’m getting old, I’m 66, I’ll be 67 in November.

“You need a younger person who can get into the media rights deals that will happen over the next few years, I just think Peter is better equipped to do the job.”
