Percival’s late show delights Holbrook

Justin Holbrook believes St Helens were full value for their victory over Hull FC on Friday.

Mark Percival’s stunning late try sealed a 19-12 success for Saints and left Lee Radford’s side empty-handed.

Holbrook said: “I think we dominated for large periods – Hull are a good side and somehow stayed in the game.

“I thought we created some good chances in that first half and fell just short a few times.

“Then, we were in control for a fair bit of the second half and they hung on in there again, to their credit, so I’m really happy with everybody tonight.

“It’s important to win those games. We can’t afford to miss those opportunities in games, but it’s great that we are creating them.

“There is some confidence we can take from that as we know if we finish those off we can put ourselves in good positions at the end of games

“In the end, it’s the win that counts and we got that.

“Percy’s (Mark Percival) finish was unbelievable. He’s a classy player and we missed him last week. It’s great to have him back. He produces some of those freakish things and it’s great he could do it again tonight for us.

“I thought the game got ruined by the conditions a little bit, but you have to be able to handle that and I thought both teams did as well as they could.

“Defence forced a number of errors too so for Percy to do that in those conditions made it extra special.

“But you have to give credit to Hull. They jagged a try and then kicked a 40-20 – but we were good enough to hold them out and get the win.

“It was an important game for us and we put in a good performance. We competed until the end and got the win we needed.”
