Penrith Panthers have confirmed the release of New Zealand winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to enable him to take up an opportunity with another NRL club.

Watene-Zelezniak, 23, was given permission to negotiate with other clubs last month, with Wests Tigers believed to be leading the chase for his signature.

Panthers CEO, Brian Fletcher, said: “As a local junior and a product of the Panthers development system, Dallin has given our club great service.

“While we’re obviously disappointed to release him, we do so knowing it is in the best interests of both parties.

“We extend our sincere thanks to Dallin for his contribution at Panthers and wish him the best of luck for the future.”

Watene-Zelezniak played 106 NRL games and scored 41 tries in his time at the club
