Paul Gallen targets one more fight before new NRL season

New South Wales State of Origin star Paul Gallen is looking at having one more venture into the boxing ring before the start of the NRL season.

The Cronulla Sharks loose forward beat Anthony Watts in a curtailed bout recently, with Watts dislocating his shouler in the first round.

But boxing is not as important to Gallen as rugby, he is at pains to stress.

“Footy is going to be my number one priority. That’s got to be first and foremost, but I want to have one more fight before the season starts,” he told Australian press.

“I’m not the kind of bloke who would be calling anyone out. I wouldn’t know what other boxers are at my level to fight. I won’t be fishing for just anyone who is out there.”

Gallen is also open to the idea of a rematch with Watts.

“I’ve probably ticked it off the list. We’ll see what happens; if something was to come up and it’s the right offer, we’ll see,” he explained.

“We had no bad blood before this but there was some carry on [in the lead up]. I probably carried on a bit too.

“After our first exchange I could tell he was a bit rattled and I was pretty confident I was going to get it done. Unfortunately he got injured.

“I went to try and find him but he wasn’t around. Hopefully he’s all right.”
