Newcastle’s Cory Paterson is set to leave the Knights, after club bosses granted the second-row permission to speak with other clubs.

Paterson has been with the club since he joined as a youngster but is understood not to be in favour with incumbent coach Wayne Bennett.

Paterson has met with the club’s Strategic Development Manager Keith Onslow recently, who advised him of the Knights’ position.

He said: “Whilst Cory’s contract with the Knights runs untill 2012, it is best for Cory to explore all his options as it appears he may be in high demand from several NRL Clubs as well as the English Super League.”.

24-year-old Paterson made his first grade debut against St George Illawarra in round 2 2007.
