Hull KR back-rower Cory Paterson has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the club if coach Craig Sandercock departs Craven Park.

Paterson, 25, joined Rovers in the close season from North Queensland Cowboys on a two-year deal, but he revealed he would be a free agent if Sandercock left.

He tweeted: “Yeah it’s true just got to wait and see what happens but yeah I would be a free agent.”

Paterson, who has scored four tries in 11 appearances for the Robins, was then quizzed further about the tweet.

He added: “I just answered the question truthfully. It does show loyalty but, in saying that, I’m having a great time here.

“I love the place, I really enjoying playing for the Rovers and, at the end of the day, I’m happy here.

“That’s all that matters. If I’m going to be happy here next year, I’ll stay. There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge yet.

“I don’t know why everybody is kicking up such a fuss.”
