Oxford role for Martin Roden

Oxford signed Oldham hooker Martin Roden as player-assistant coach.

Roden, who was caretaker coach of the Roughyeds for the last four games of last season, hooks up again with Tony Benson.

He said: “I’m delighted to be part of Oxford RL, Rugby League is in my blood and to be given an opportunity to be part of something historic in Oxford is an honour and I’m looking forward to working with the club’s partners on the fitness and analysis side.”

The former Wigan and Leigh player will combine playing with being the club’s assistant and fitness coach.

He has a degree in sports science and works full-time in his own gym.

He added: “My professional background is in fitness, I’ve worked as a player under some top coaches but the thought of our link with Wakefield Wildcats and Oxford Brookes University is very exciting.”
