Kenyan winger Lucas Onyango will make his 100th appearance for Oldham in their derby clash with Rochdale on Friday.

Onyango, 30, made his debut part way through the 2007 season after moving to the club from Widnes.

He said: “The time has flown by since I first came here. It’s crazy.

“Lots of players have come and gone in that time, but I’m happy to soldier on here while the boss still wants me.

“I’ve always felt at home at Oldham — and to get that interception try against Barrow after being sidelined for so long was magical.

“It was a shock to the system to look up and see I had half the length of the pitch to run, but neither my legs nor my lungs let me down. I felt great.”

Onyango, who played Rugby 7s for Kenya at the Commonwealth Games in 2002, originally played rugby union in Manchester before being spotted by then National League 1 side Widnes ahead of the 2006 season.

He has scored 70 tries in 99 appearances for Oldham, and will become the 13th player to reach 100 appearances for the new club, formed 15 years ago.
