Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin will miss the Warriors’ trip to Wakefield on Sunday while young prop Joe Bretherton could make his Super League debut.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane confirmed O’Loughlin is out, with Bretherton in line for his first appearance at Belle Vue.

“We’re looking forward to it, we’ll be giving another debut I think,” Wane said.

“Lockers will be out, Liam Farrell is banned. I’ve had to send the players home yesterday and today because of a virus that has gone through the club.

“I like getting the young kids in, I’m excited. As long as they try hard and give a good account of themselves then I’ll be happy.

“We’ll turn up on Sunday with 17 players committed to getting two points.”

Wane described Wakefield as a team in form and a real test for his side.

“They’re playing with some confidence,” he said.

“Both their halves are playing well, they’re doing the basics well, the simple things at pace. They’re playing a good brand of Rugby League.

“We must match them and get to the end of our sets and finish them well. It’s a big ask, they’re bang in form. It’s a good character game so I’ll see what my players are made of.”
