Oldham re-sign Holmes

Oldham Roughyeds have re-signed outside-back Jack Holmes from Rochdale Hornets on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old was a key player in Oldham’s 2015 promotion-winning side but left the club to join rivals Rochdale.

He has now left the Hornets to link up with Scott Naylor’s side once more and return to the club where he scored 20 tries in 36 appearances in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Holmes can play on the wing, at centre or at full-back.

And he admitted that he has missed being at the club over the last year or so.

Holmes said: “I didn’t get much game time last season. I’m hoping to get more at Oldham, and I’ve got to say it’s good to be back. I missed it while I was away.

“I really enjoyed my rugby when I was at Oldham before and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it again. It was always a good place for me.

“It was Oldham who gave me an opportunity when I most needed it and I got promotion with them so I always had fond memories of the place and of the club.

“I’m familiar with the club, the coaching staff and a lot of the lads who are still there. In fact, it felt a bit weird when I walked into training the other night. In some ways, it felt like I had never been away.

“The group was still just as close as I remembered it and it was good to be back with a lot of the lads who were there when I left.”
