Oldham players have heart-to-heart after successive defeats

Oldham coach Tony Benson has revealed his side have laid out their problems bare after six straight defeats.

The meeting took place following their 30-4 loss to Rochdale, and Benson said no punches were pulled.

He said: “We had a good, hard look at ourselves. Everyone was given the opportunity to speak their minds.  There was no finger-wagging or shouting, but a few home-truths were spoken and we called a spade a spade.

“We then talked about what went wrong, and we were absolutely straight and honest with each other.

“It isn’t good enough, but we are working our socks off to get it right. We’ve copped for a lot of criticism and rightly so.”

However Benson believes that his side need just one win to regain their confidence. With four teams being promoted into the Championship this season, Oldham will never have a better opportunity to finally get out of Championship 1.

Benson said: “What happened last Sunday was totally unacceptable. Individual errors are killing us, but we just need one win and we will be a different team again. We will be back on track.

“Our fans have stuck with us throughout this dreadful spell and you can’t put a price on that. We are leaving no stone unturned in identifying the problems, and solving them.”
