NRL discuss longer matches

NRL clubs have held talks to discuss plans to make matches longer so the NRL can charge broadcasters more for the next TV rights deal.

According to Rugby League Week magazine, club CEOs admit discussing options such as time-outs before drop kicks or four-quarter football at their recent summit on the Gold Coast.

Melbourne’s Brian Waldron said: “One of our discussions was to look at all possible options for television and included varying the existing structure of the game without damaging the product.”

Canterbury Bulldogs chief Todd Greenberg added: “We just have to find a balance between the commercial success of our competition and the fabric of the game.”
