North Wales Crusaders have appointed Carl Forster as player-coach for the 2023 League 1 season.

Forster, 30, makes the switch from Championship outfit Barrow Raiders, where he originally extended his deal by a further two seasons.

He will however lead up the Welsh side for the 2023 campaign, having also been the assistant coach under Paul Crarey at Craven Park in 2022.

Forster coached Whitehaven in 2017 in League 1 and Rochdale in 2019 in the Championship.

Forster on North Wales Crusaders opportunity

He said: “I’m excited to come on board and get going. After speaking to Andy about the club and some present players, it was something that excited me.

“I’m passionate about coaching, and the opportunity was just too good to turn down.

“Personally, I’m looking forward to getting the lads back into training and getting my ideas across and bringing a team the fans can be proud of. Also, looking forward to meeting the fans come the season and going through what hopefully is a successful season together.

“I would like to put on record my appreciation to Barrow and everyone involved at the club for allowing me to pursue this opportunity and for everything in the last three years.”
