North Queensland Cowboys have given forward pair Gavin Cooper and Corey Jensen new contracts.

Veteran back-rower Cooper, 34, has signed a one-year deal and will embark on his 15th season in the NRL in 2020. He has played 307 NRL games to date.

Cowboys director of football, Peter Parr, said: “We have a number of talented young edge back-rowers at the club who we think are going to develop into really good NRL players and another year with Gavin is going to assist their development.

“Re-signing Coops also ensures we retain a strong leader, which is important with Matt Scott and Scott Bolton leaving the club at the end of the season.”

Prop Jensen has penned a two-year contract with the club. He has made 41 first-grade appearances since making his NRL debut with the Cowboys in 2017.

Parr added: “We’ve invested a lot of time and effort into Corey and there is no doubt he has made significant progress in his development over the past few seasons.

“We absolutely believe Corey’s best football is in the near future and he is going to be a player that has real upside in the coming years.”
