North Queensland have brought in New Zealand international Jordan Kahu from Brisbane as Ben Barba’s replacement for 2019.

Kahu will link up with the Cowboys immediately on a one-year contract after being granted a release from Queensland rivals Brisbane.

The 28-year-old is likely to take over Matty Bowen’s No. 1 jersey at the Cowboys following Barba’s sacking over an alleged altercation with his partner outside a Townsville casino earlier this month.

On signing Kahu, Cowboys’ coach Paul Green said: “To pick up a player of Jordan’s ability and experience at this stage of the pre-season is a massive bonus for us.

“He gives us depth at a number of positions, he’s a very good centre and he’s played wing and full-back as well.

“His goal kicking ability is the added bonus on top of everything else he offers.”

Kahu has earned nine caps for the Kiwis, while scoring 42 tries and kicking 149 goals in 95 games for the Broncos.
