No Chase for Leigh

Leigh will do battle with Workington Town in the Challenge Cup without star halfback Rangi Chase.

Chase has been left out of the Centurion’s 19-man squad for the game, which sees the inclusion of Willie Tonga and Tom Armstrong.

Leigh won 26-18 at Halifax in their last Championship outing.

Coach Neil Jukes said: “I was delighted to get the win. Our first six games have been tricky and after losing our opener you could be thinking confidence was down.

“The way we are performing with ball in hand, which in the first half at Halifax was nowhere near acceptable, and to still come through and only lose one game of the six is great testament not just to myself but all the support staff.

“Given where we have been, it’s a real good shot in the arm for us.”

Workington got their first win of the season when they beat Oldham 23-12 at home.

Coach Phil Veivers said: “We got the monkey off our backs. I didn’t think we were that far away in our first five games, there were a few blips here and there. Being starved of possession doesn’t help but when we get an even share of possession we’re in with a shout.

“We go out to win every game and we’ll prepare for this week like we prepare for every other game and see how we go.”

Wing Sam Forrester picked up an ankle injury and will be out for six to eight weeks. Second row Jarrad Stack is likely to miss this week with a shoulder problem but loose forward Karl Ostrom will be back in the squad.
