Newcastle Knights bring in gun centres

Newcastle Knights have signed centre pair Kayal Iro and Enari Tuala.

Cook Islands international Iro, 19, has penned a one-year Under-20s contract with the Knights after impressing at the World Cup Nines. He is the son of former New Zealand star Kevin and nephew of Tony.

Tuala, 21, arrives at Newcastle on a one-year contract from North Queensland Cowboys, where he made 18 appearances since making his NRL debut in 2017.

Knights recruitment manager, Alex McKinnon, said: “Kayal is an energetic player.

“He can play anywhere in the backline and played full-back for the Cook Islands but I believe his best position is in the centres. He’s an athletic body with a lot of potential.

“Enari is a highly accomplished youngster. He debuted young and having finished with the Cowboys, moves to Newcastle for an opportunity to restart his first-grade career.

“The backline is an area we are looking to bolster and are excited to have Enari join our top 30 for the 2020 season.”
