Newcastle Thunder pair Jed Charlton and Tyler Craig have both re-signed with the club for the 2020 League One season.

Charlton, a product of Gateshead Storm, is an academy graduate at Newcastle after joining the side in the Under 15s. He captained the Under 19s in 2018 and made his first team debut against Oldham, making a total of four appearances so far.

“Hopefully I’ll get a lot more opportunities in the new season,” Charlton said.

“It was a tough season last year, but it was understandable with some of the players we had in like Joel Edwards, it is hard to compete with such a high calibre, but I’m hoping I can step up and start making a regular name for myself in the first team squad.

“There was a lot of learning and growing done last year and seeing where I need to improve, so hopefully I can take that forward and make next year a good season for myself.”

Craig, a winger, has made a total of 34 appearances for Thunder since joining in 2017 , including nine appearances in 2019.

“The ambition of the club is big, they are wanting to be pushing towards Super League in the next few years and I want to be part of that,” he said.

“The team last year was really competitive and you had to be patient to get your chance, but Simon had belief to put me in for the playoffs and I’m looking forward to being involved again next season.”
