Newcastle centre Tautau Moga has been fined $60,000 following a recent court appearance.

The Knights have confirmed half of the amount had been suspended, subject to good behaviour.

Moga appeared in Newcastle Local Court last month and escaped having a conviction recorded for slapping a taxi driver twice after a day at Newcastle races last December.

The Samoa international was placed on a six-month conditional release order, with the magistrate accepting Moga’s crime fell within the lower range of assault and that he had expressed remorse for his actions to the victim afterwards.

Moga has already served a tw0-game suspension in the NRL.

A Knights’ statement read: “Moga has shown genuine remorse for his actions and will be very active in the club’s community programmes.”
