Newcastle have signed half-back Jake Shorrocks from Wigan for the 2021 Championship season.

The 25-year-old made 28 appearances for the Warriors since making his first team debut in 2015. He also enjoyed spells on loan at Workington, Swinton and Salford.

Shorrocks follows fellow half-back Josh Woods from Wigan to Newcastle ahead of 2021.

Shorrocks said: “I’m really excited to sign for Thunder. I’ve reached a point where I want to develop myself as a player and coming to the north east is a really exciting prospect.

“I’ve read in the media the goals the club are setting for themselves and speaking to Denis (Betts) and Eamon (O’Carroll), they explained a bit more about that to me and I can’t wait for us to get started.

“Achieving the goals that Thunder are setting will be exciting for everyone involved and for rugby league as a whole and being involved in that is something I really want to be part of.

“Denis and Eamon are putting together a very capable team and it will be good to test ourselves against the established teams in the Championship. I’ll be doing everything I can to help the club compete.”

Thunder director of rugby Denis Betts said: “Jake is an established half with Super League experience and has come from a great background.

“He is a player whose ambition matches that of the club, and he sees us as somewhere we he can advance his career by being a part of us achieving our goals. He is an exciting talent with an excellent kicking game and is very strong with the ball in hand.”
