New Warrington signing Matty Ashton is “like a Ferrari”

Warrington’s new recruit Matty Ashton is like a Ferrari, according to his coach Steve Price.

The 21-year-old joined the Wolves on a two-year deal from Championship side Swinton earlier in the off-season.

Ashton, who scored 30 tries for the Lions last year, has impressed Warrington’s coaching staff with his sheer pace in pre-season.

Price said: “I didn’t really appreciate his speed and wheels and how fast he can get across the ground in the Championship.

“But I certainly appreciate how he moves now. He’s an exciting machine and he is like a Ferrari.”

Price is happy with the strength in depth that the Wolves have got this year but is open to bringing a new face in.

He added: “Samy Kibula has lost 15 kilos since when he first arrived and Keanan Brand has got a really strong core.

“We are doing things differently than what we have done in the past, so we’ve got a good mixture of youth and experience. It is a matter of everyone trying to fit in to the starting 17 come round one against Wigan.

“I’m really happy with our squad at the moment and we’ve got a really good blend of youth and experience.

“There are players who have played at the highest level but if the right player came up then I’d definitely look at it.”
