New Stadium in York approved by planners

York City Knights have been handed a huge boost this afternoon with the news that planning permission for a new 6,000 seater stadium has been approved.

After a lenghty public inquiry and debate that started at 9am this morning, councillors finally voted 11-4 in favour of the plans submitted by Oakgate to build two new retail units for Marks & Spencer and John Lewis, plus a brand new 6,000 all seater community stadium, with various other leisure facilities.

The move is a massive boost to the Knights – and York City football club – who have both suffered from disappointing attendances and limited income streams at their dated current homes.
