New deal for Cas youngster

Castleford Tigers have rewarded promising second row forward Billy Harris with a full time contract.

The 18-year-old former Stanley Rangers junior has graduated through the Tigers Academy ranks and will train with the senior squad when they commence training ahead of the 2011 season on a two-year deal.

Tigers boss Terry Matterson said: “Billy is a promising young player and I look forward to seeing how he goes when he’s here full time and training with the first team. We had a number of young players with us on a similar basis this year and we are hoping that he can develop along the lines, for example, of Olly Holmes who has made his Super League debut this year at a similar age.

Billy said: “I’m very pleased to have agreed this contract; this is a great opportunity for me. I know that I need to work hard, but the club have shown that they will give young players a chance and I’m determined to take mine and hopefully develop myself and eventually make the grade in Super League.”
