Mullally joins Whitehaven on loan

Widnes prop Anthony Mullally has joined Whitehaven on loan for the rest of the season.

Mullally, 20, has made nine appearances for the Vikings in 2012, but recently turned down an extension to his contract, which runs out at the end of 2012.

The Widnesian, who spent last season on loan with Brisbane Broncos‘ Toyota Cup team, goes straight in to Whitehaven coach Don Gailer’s plans for Sunday’s Championship 1 clash with South Wales Scorpions.

Vikings Director of Rugby, Paul Cullen said; “The loan process is a system that benefits both parties. Whitehaven’s squad will be boosted by the arrival of a quality player, while Anthony will gain valuable experience playing week in week out in a tough environment. Having seen his opportunities limited in recent times, this will certainly aid his development as a player.”

Mullally has struggled for game time since the news that he had been given permission to speak to other clubs.

Whitehaven Chief Executive, Barry Richardson added; “We are extremely grateful to Widnes and Paul Cullen for allowing Anthony to join us for the remainder of the season.

“Having seen him play and received so many good reports about him, we are absolutely delighted to capture the services of such a quality player and are hopeful his introduction will give us a huge push in our bid for promotion this year.”
