Mouthwatering Origin side in prospect

James Gordon

With just a few days to go to make your selections, England are set to face a mouth-watering side selected by fans in the International Origin on June 10 at Headingley.

Coach Brian McClennan has already selected Danny Buderus, Thomas Leuluai and Luke O’Donnell, and will make two further picks before the fans votes come in to play to make the inital 18-man squad.

Castleford stand-off Rangi Chase, one of the stand-out performers in Super League this season, has proven to be the fans’ choice for the number 6 spot in the game, polling 84% of the votes ahead of Wigan’s Brett Finch.

Fans have been voting for their chosen 13, and have until April 21 to get their votes in.

Warrington trio Brett Hodgson, Joel Monaghan and Matt King currently lead the way for three of the spots in the backs, with Wigan pair Pat Richards and George Carmont likely to complete the back five.

England‘s pack faces an almightly task against a forward line-up which at present would include Willie Mason, Mark O’Meley, Craig Fitzgibbon, Luke O’Donnell, Steve Menzies and Danny Buderus.

But there is still time for the likes of Iosia Soliola, Brent Webb, Clint Newton and Tony Puletua to gain votes and get themselves in the Origin line-up.

The International Origin game has been devised to help give England preparation for the end of season Four Nations competition, akin to the State of Origin series Down Under.
