Mort set to miss Knights encounter

Ian Mort will be absent from Swinton’s televised clash with York after suffering from a gash to his nose.

The cut will require Mort to undergo plastic surgery, but coach Steve McCormack insists he has enough back up to replace Mort when it comes to taking goal kicks.

McCormack said: “We have a few options. Chaz I’Anson can kick goals and so can Karl Ashall. Gavin Dodd is also a good goal kicker if I decide to bring him back. It won’t be a problem.

“The injury was quite nasty. He was told to go straight to hospital and may need some plastic surgery. He took a boot in the face and its cut right into the side of his nose.”

McCormack gave a Lions debut to youngster Chris Clarke in the Huddersfield Challenge Cup tie, and says the hard work he has put in since the start of the season has paid off for him.

McCormack said: “He did really well and I was impressed with him. He had about 25 minutes and made a good impact when he came on.

“It’s a good thing to have another player joining the ranks and one I know I can trust in the big games. It does give me a selection headache but that’s what we want.”
