Morrison snares Saints Starlet

Dewsbury Rams have completed another major coup with the signature of St Helens second rower or centre Scott Hale.

Hale, 20, made four top-level appearances for Saints, having been handed his first-team debut in 2011.

Scott signed for the five-time Super League champions after learning his trade with local amateur side Haydock Warriors, and is a player who has caught the eye in the Red Vee with his all-action performances from the back row.

And Hale already has experience of what it takes to compete at Championship level following a fruitful dual-registration loan spell with Swinton Lions in 2012.

Rams head coach Glenn Morrison says he is delighted to have been able to bring Scott to the club, especially as the player had generated a significant amount of interest from other potential employers.

“Scott is a big, athletic back rower, who can also play in the centres. He runs great lines down the edges and is adept at creating opportunities for those around him,” said Morrison.

“He joins us from a Super League environment, having trained full-time throughout his career, and I am sure we will reap the benefits of that, but I also feel there is a little more development in him.

“There were other clubs chasing him and one or two Super League clubs were having a look at him too, so it’s fantastic that we’ve been able to bring him to the to the Rams. He is a great talent.”

Hale becomes the 19th member of Morrison’s exciting, new-look first team squad, and is his ninth new signing following the recruitment of Makali Aizue, Callam Becektt, Jy-mel Coleman, Tommy Gallagher, Ryan Hepworth, Dale Morton, Russ Spiers and Ryan Wright.
