Morrison relishing the magic of the Cup with Dewsbury

Dewsbuty coach Glenn Morrison is looking forward to more Challenge Cup adventures with the Rams this season.

The Australian, who enjoyed spells with Parramatta and North Queensland in the NRL before playing in Super League, welcomes Stanley Gene‘s Newcastle Thunder to Dewsbury at the weekend for a Challenge Cup fourth round tie.

His team are keen to get to the next round, and repeat some of the Cup magic of last season.

“Being an Aussie, when you think of English rugby, you think of the Challenge Cup, you want lower league teams playing the top teams, that’s the magic of it,” said Morrison.

“Playing Wigan last year was fantastic, it was a sell-out crowd and everyone commented on what a good game it was on and off the field.

“We pushed them for 60 minutes before they took control. The lads really enjoyed it and they want a repeat this time out.”

Morrison knows that Gene’s team will be no pushovers, despite playing in the division below Dewsbury.

“It’s been a mixed bag of results for us recently, we played Halifax at the weekend in an extremely tough game and then we travel to Workington on Friday before then going to Newcastle, so it’s going to be a hard week and a real test for us,” he added.

“They are an extremely good and strong side. We played them in a pre-season friendly and I sent our second team and they dealt with them pretty easily. Stan (Stanley Gene) has them playing a good game, we can’t afford to take them lightly.”
