Mitchell Pearce wants to help Catalans Dragons win Super League title

Catalans Dragons’ latest superstar signing Mitchell Pearce says he wants to help the French club win their first ever Super League title.

The 32-year-old half-back has joined the Dragons on a two-year deal, with the option of a third.

Pearce has made more than 300 NRL appearances for Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights. He has played 19 times for New South Wales in State of Origin.

He said: “I am thrilled to have an opportunity to play for a proud rugby league team like Catalans.

“They have some of the most passionate fans in the sport and it is an honour to be able to represent them.

“I would like to thank Bernard Guasch and Steve McNamara and look forward to helping them achieve their goal of a Super League Premiership.”

Catalans coach Steve McNamara said: “We are delighted and excited by the signing of Mitchell.

“He has had an incredible career in the NRL. Having worked closely with him before, I know the sheer quality and energy he will bring to our team.”

NRL side Newcastle agreed to release Pearce from the final year of his contract.

A statement on Newcastle’s club website read: “The nib Newcastle Knights have agreed to grant Mitchell Pearce a release to join English Super League club Catalans Dragons. 

“Pearce requested a release from the final year of his current contract in late October, with both parties working through the process, making it effective immediately.

“The Knights would like to thank Mitchell for his significant contribution since joining the club in 2017; celebrating many highlights including 300 NRL games and back-to-back finals series.”
