England academy international Elliot Minchella has signed a new contract with six-time Super League winners Leeds.

Minchella, 17, made a try-scoring debut last season in the 42-16 win away at Salford and he is highly thought of at Headingley Carnegie.

The teenage loose forward has signed a new three-year deal with the Rhinos and he will captain the under-19’s squad when they travel to France for a two-game tour in January.

“I had a good year in 2013 and it is nice to get rewarded for that,” said Minchella.

“Hopefully, I can crack on this season and get one or two games, but my focus is more on the 19s. I want to have a strong year for them and see what we can do.

“We have got a different team, we’ve lost a few players and a lot of young lads have come in, so we will see how we go. If I get any first-team games it will be a bonus. This year was totally out of the blue, it wasn’t what I was aiming for.”
