Mikey Lewis to miss rest of 2022 due to concussion

Hull KR half-back Mikey Lewis has been ruled out of the remainder of 2022 due to concussion. 

Lewis, 21, left the field due to a head knock in Thursday’s 18-6 defeat to Wakefield. He suffered a concussion late in the first half while tackling departing Trinity prop David Fifita.

He is now ruled out for the rest of 2022 as he’s required to fulfil the club’s return to play protocols which stretch beyond the Robins’ final game of 2022.

The talented youngster joins a long list of injuries at the Robins. Interim boss Danny McGuire has had a tough first taste of head coaching experience, with several big star players suffering long-term injuries.

Lewis had been named in Paul Anderson’s most recent England Knights performance squad. However, he looks likely to miss the upcoming games against France ‘B’ and Scotland. He made his debut against Jamaica last year after a breakthrough season at Craven Park.

Full-back and Scotland international Lachlan Coote will miss the rest of the season due to his third concussion knock of the year.

Captain Shaun Kenny-Dowall was recently ruled out for the rest of 2022 with a knee injury. The 34-year-old went down awkwardly in a tackle in the defeat to Leeds and damaged his medial collateral ligament (MCL).

Greg Richards has now undergone surgery to repair his torn hamstring. Dean Hadley has also undergone surgery on his shoulder issue and is targeting a return for the start of pre-season.

Meanwhile, Jez Litten’s season is over having received a two-match suspension for a Grade C dangerous throw following their 18-6 defeat to Wakefield.

Jimmy Keinhorst will miss the club’s fixture against Wigan on Monday with a Grade B trip charge.
